The Desert Woods

This is near a small southern desert. Patches of palm trees and shrubs grow between the dirt and sand.

(Its where Khora's old pack was, also where she is running right now)

Khora did not see the ghost this time, tears blinding her from where she was headed. She padded onto the hot sand and quickly her paw pads adjusted to the heat. The many years of her pack here had paid off.

Blaze followed close behind not letting Khora out of his sight.

She kept running, her tracks were blown away by the blaring wind. The flying sand wipped at her face, and only then did Khora realize, where she was. She lifted her head and looked around, a sense of familiarity settlign in her stomache, but fear as well. "Do they still lurk around here?" She whispered, her voice being blowen away by the wind.

Blaze sprinted harder losing track of Khora in the sand.

She looked around the barren landscape, spotting a set of cliffs further south. She would be safe from teh wipping sand and wind. She grumbled, the heat getting to her faster with this thicker coat. She then began padding that way, to the cliffs and a few palm trees.

Panting and with a sandy taste in his mouth Blaze steps closer to Khora.

Khora settled herself under a palm tree, the sand blowing all around her. The bits of shrubs around her keeping it from whipping about. As she gazed out on the seemingly endless plains of sand, she thought she spotted a white and red pelt. "Blaze?!" She gasped and stood up. She peered out at him, and then knew it was him. She howled out for him, calling his name. "BLAZEEEEEE!" It was carried by the wind.

He heard Khoras voice and sprinted to her sighing in relief.

Her tail began wagging without her tellling it to. Her heart leaped and went into bounds while her stomache twisted with nervousness. She realized, just how much he must love her. As she watched him bound through the sandstorm to her.

He found her the wind finally not blowing in his face. "Thank Goodness you're okay" He said licking her muzzle.

She nuzzled him back, overjoyed that he was with her. "You followed me.... into a sandstorm." She whispered, almost like she expected him to disappear and it have only been a mirage.

"I would follow you anywhere" He said sitting by her and panting. "W-where is this place" He said looking around.

She moved her tail, revealing a small hole in the cliffs that she had been resting against. "My home..." She whispered to him, a strong sense of weariness and joy in her voice. Khora crawled in the hole and emerged on the side, surrounded by rocks and cliffs, palm trees shading down and little wind blowing around. A small stream trickled down a side of the cliffs. "This... Was my home. My birthplace... My pack's living place."

He looked around in awe "No wonder you dont like cold" He said

She chuckled and licked his muzzle. "There was where my father watched the pack." She flicked her tail to what looked like a sentrey post on the cliffs. "He was pack guard." She explained. "That's the alpha's den and the healers were over there. We never had to leave for the seasons." She said, nastolgica flushing over her. Then her face dropped, as she gazed at a stone den. "That's where the healers lived and trained..."

"I have no idea what became of my pack" He said standing closer to her and looking over the area

Khora sighed. "I wish I didn't know what happened to my old pack..." She licked his cheek. "I bet its for the better though, that you don't know what happened to them." She whispered.

"Perhaps" He said showing no emotion but was really curious.

She couldn't bare it anymore. She suddenly bursted out, tears flowing from her eyes. "I CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE!" She cried out, her fur bristling to their highest point.

Blaze looked at her with concern and wrapped his head around hers. "It's okay you can tell me anything" He said

She sat next to him, and cried more. "The sand was blowing fast over the cliffs. My father was on guard like always. As he rounded for the second time of the afternoon... He fell right down on the hard rocks of the alpha's den. My mother.... She screamed and when she came over to check on him.... She fell dead. Then another wolf fell dead, another and another and another. Quickly half of my pack was dead, laying limp on the desert floor. I was pushed into the healers den, stuffed between the herbs and wounded wolves. I was about seven months. Then there were gunshots, we were being raided by hunters. Wolves scattered all around, and the next thing I knew, it was silent. The dead wolves were being dragged away from the den, and the remaining wolves were hiding. We watched them cart away our kin, and I watched them take my parnets and little sister Rosilie." She cried, and it was obvious that there was more.

Blaze shook his head and tried to imagine the horror.

Khora cried more, nuzzling her head into his shoulder. "Then we were all silent, fearing they would return. We sat there, hollow and scared for days. A wolf feel dead from hunger. We hadn't been eating before the raid, and now, we were starving. By the weeks end we had returned to our normal duties, but my pack was a forth of what it use to be."
